Ocean out front. Jungle out back. Home in between.
OSA PENINSULA · COSTA RICA
Where The Jungle Meets The Pacific
Not from behind hotel walls. Not from a resort pool. From the sand itself — surfing a world-class break before breakfast, watching your chef turn this morning's catch into tonight's feast, falling asleep to the sound of the Pacific. No other guests. No shared spaces. The entire estate is exclusively yours.
Cabo Matapalo sits at the tip of the Osa Peninsula, where Corcovado National Park meets the ocean and the jungle runs right to the water's edge. Eight private acres, a hundred yards from the water, on the most biologically intense coastline on Earth. This isn't a hotel room with an ocean view. This is your own private resort — chef, guide, jungle, and Pacific included. There's nowhere else like it.
WORLD-CLASS WAVES. A PERSONAL CHEF. THE WILDEST COAST ON EARTH. ALL OF IT YOURS.
The Heart of Casa Tumbo
The best part of Casa Tumbo isn't the estate. It's the people who run it. A guide who knows every wave, every trail, and every fisherman on the Golfo Dulce. A chef who turns this morning's catch into tonight's feast. Together they don't just show you Costa Rica, they turn a week in the jungle into something you'll spend years trying to explain to people who weren't there.
Felipe is the reason people come back. He'll take you surfing at dawn at Pan Dulce — a world-class left point break three minutes from your door. He'll put your kids on a kayak in the Golfo Dulce and show them dolphins. He'll organize a fishing trip on The Girlfriend — our private boat — and help Angelica cook what you caught that night. He's not a concierge you call through an app. He's the guy who makes you laugh at dinner and remembers how you like your coffee by day two. He's been doing this at Tumbo for years because he genuinely loves it — and you'll feel that from the moment you arrive.
Pan Dulce, Backwash, and Matapalo — three right-hand point breaks within walking distance. And when the swell lines up, Felipe will take you across the Golfo Dulce on The Girlfriend to surf Pavones, one of the longest left-hand waves in the world.
Felipe — Your Guide, Your Friend
Nineteen years of culinary craft, rooted in the traditions of her native Costa Rica and refined by a deep love of cooking from scratch. Angelica sources the freshest local ingredients — fish from the Golfo Dulce, fruit from the trees on the property, herbs from her garden — and turns them into meals that guests consistently call the best they've ever had. Every breakfast, lunch, and dinner is prepared with care, tailored to your group's tastes, and served in the open air with the jungle as your dining room. This isn't hotel food. This is someone cooking for you like you're family. She doesn't cook for guests. She cooks for friends she hasn't met yet.
Fresh-caught ceviche with mango and coconut for lunch. Seared ahi rolled in sesame seeds for dinner. Homemade bread still warm from the oven every morning. Whatever your dietary needs, whatever your group's tastes — she handles it all. And if you want to learn her secrets, she'll teach you in a hands-on cooking class.

This is truly a 5-star resort. I have never experienced such consistently amazing food and as a New Yorker, that is saying a lot.

Our Story
Thirty years ago, a couple of brothers and a few lifelong friends heard about a wave at the end of a dirt road on Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula. They made the trip — hours of travel, every mode of transportation imaginable — and stepped out onto a beach with a perfect wave peeling off in the distance.
They never really left. What began as a tent and a hammock has grown slowly, intentionally, with bare hands and a lot of love into what Tumbo is today. Not a hotel chain's idea of paradise. Something real, built over decades by people who fell in love with this place and decided to share it.
This is the best way to travel — no walls between you and the wild, no barriers between you and the people who call this place home.
